Lupus affects 5 million people worldwide, according to the Lupus Foundation of America. Every year, over 16,000 new cases of lupus are reported across the world. While the causes of lupus are still not fully understood, it is known that lupus is an autoimmune disease that damages various parts of your body. There are many reports that mangosteen juice can cure lupus and its symptoms, though none of those claims has been proven.

Immune System Improvement

If you suffer from lupus, your immune system is not working the way it should be working. Right now, your immune system is not able to recognize the difference between germs, bacteria or viruses and healthy tissue. You immune system is attacking healthy tissue as a result of the confusion, and it causes inflammation, pain and damage to occur in parts of your body.

Producers of mangosteen juice claim it supports the immune system, neutralizes free radicals and provides cellular protection. According to MayoClinic.com, mangosteen is a high source of antioxidants and may protect against certain diseases. Experimental studies were reported by researchers of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México to suggest mangosteen does have antibacterial and antiviral properties. No conclusive studies prove mangosteen juice is effective or safe in treating the immune system for people suffering from lupus.

Inflammation Help

Lupus causes inflammation and painful or swollen joints. The swelling and inflammation may come and go and only appear occasionally.

Another claim producers of mangosteen juice make is that it can reduce inflammation. According to researchers at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, experimental studies have also shown that compounds in the mangosteen do have anti-inflammatory properties. No conclusive studies prove mangosteen juice is effective or safe in treating inflammation for people suffering from lupus.

Better Skin

A common symptom of lupus is a rash across the cheeks and nose. Mangosteen juice may improve skin tone and decrease wrinkles and blemishes. The producers of mangosteen juice have been warned about making this claim by the U.S Food and Drug Administration, as there are no scientific studies to back it up.

Better Energy Levels

If you have lupus, you most likely suffer from extreme fatigue. Manufacturers of mangosteen juice claim it helps overall health, gives antioxidant support and promotes healthy energy levels.

While researchers at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México confirm mangosteen does have antioxidant properties, there is not enough evidence to prove mangosteen juice can increase energy levels in people suffering from lupus.
