Maybe you did not know that incense has many medicinal properties, as shown by the results of new research, it could help in the treatment of ovarian cancer.
For centuries, this plant is used as an anti-inflammatory agent in the treatment of asthma, various skin diseases and gastroenteritis. Two years ago, it was published a study showing that incense may help in the treatment of arthritis.
In addition, some previous studies have shown that the incense is useful in treating some forms of cancer, including breast, colon and prostate, due to substance contained – 3-acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellic acid (akba).
After a year of laboratory analysis of this substance, scientists at the University “Lester” in the UK tested it on a series of cells of ovarian cancer in late stage, some of which were resistant to chemotherapy.
Akba has effectively destroyed the cells of ovarian cancer, and what has been most surprising is that scientists found that the cancer cells they have tested which are resistant to chemotherapy have shown to be more sensitive to this compound, suggesting frankincense may indeed be able to help overcome drug resistance, and lead to an improved survival rate for patients with late-stage ovarian cancer.
Therefore, they believe that frankincense could be very useful for the prevention of drug resistance, and that could contribute to improve the survival of patients with ovarian cancer in advanced stage.
It is also good that incense does not produce any side effects, and the authors of the report consider that it has enough resources to be brought to the level of clinical research and to develop in the future in an additional therapy for the treatment of ovarian cancer.
