You should start your day with this drink at least once a week and even better if that can happen every day. It’s incredibly rich in vitamins and healthy fibers, poor in calories, and is good for every part of our body.
The main ingredient is – celery!
The simplest recipe is to use a juicer and combine celery with other fruits and vegetables. Celery can be mixed with other fruit and vegetables juices, for example apple juice, carrot juice or cucumber juice. A mix of carrot, beetroot and celery is recommended in 8:3:5 ratio, carrot, cabbage and celery in 1:4:5 ratio or carrot, celery and radish in 8:5:3 ratio.
Why is celery genius?
The stalk celery juice is rich in nutrients and is among the healthiest fluids you can get. It is very alkaline and keeps the pH balance in the system, which is often acidified because of industrial produced food.
Celery leaves are rich in vitamin A and the stems are a great source of vitamins B1, B2 and B6 and are full with potassium, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, sodium and essential amino-acids. Vegetable hormones are also here, as well as some very valuable ethereal oils which give it specific scent. These oils affect and calm especially the nervous system.
It’s interesting that celery is rich in sodium which is different from other salts we use in the kitchen. Kitchen salt is composed of inorganic compounds which cannot be dissolved and lead to expanded veins, damaged arteries and other diseases. On the other hand, celery is soluble in water so the body can use it better and at the same time keep the cells hydrated.
- Against cancer
It is known that celery contains at least eight anti-carcinogenic substances. A research at Rutgers University in New Jersey showed that celery contains several substances that prevent the spreading of cancer, such as acetylene and phenolic acid. Coumarin is another phytochemical which prevents the bad influence of free radicals and serves in prevention of cancer in the large intestine and stomach.
- Lowers cholesterol
Lab studies have shown that butyl phtalide, a chemical compound in celery can help in reducing LDL (bad) cholesterol. By the research at the University in Chicago, celery reduces the levels of cholesterol for about seven times just by eating two stems a day. Celery also helps in increased secretion of gall acid which removes cholesterol from the body.
- Helps your digestion
Special nutrient matters from the celery leaves can help bowel movement. That makes the celery a natural laxative which helps constipation. It also helps to relax the nerves exhausted by pharmaceutical laxatives.
Potassium and sodium in the celery juice are strong regulators which stimulate the production of urine and help in the release of fluids from the body.
- Anti-inflammatory effects
The polyacetylene in celery is an amazing agent for relieving infections, including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, asthma and bronchitis. A study published by the American Academy of Science has shown that another strong phytochemical in celery, luteolin, also blocks the forming of roads which lead to brain infection. Luteolin inhibits the excess production of TNF-alfa, a direct cause of infection. You can drink celery juice as much as you like, without fear of overdose (you should use organic celery so it doesn’t contain harmful pesticides).
- Reduces blood pressure
Celery helps in reducing high blood pressure. A study has shown that everyday drinking of celery juice can help in reducing blood pressure during the day. Compounds like phthalide help in relaxing the muscles around the blood vessels, widening them and allowing an easier blood flow. Phthalides also reduce the amount of stress which can tighten the blood vessels.
Mineral and aetheric oils found in the celery have a calming effect on the nervous system, which is useful for people who suffer from insomnia. High levels of magnesium help you relax and fall into a nice, calming dream.
- Weight loss
Drinking celery juice during the day can help subdue the desire for sweets. You fill your stomach, but don’t intake calories.
- Elimination and prevention of lime scale
Celery juice is an incredible exterminator of toxins from the body, so it helps even in shattering and ejection of urine and gall bladder.
