Everyone in the world performs their basic activity, emptying their intestines in a natural way i.e. squatting position. They almost didn’t know anything about the present intestinal diseases like hemorrhoids, constipation, intestinal cancer and Crohn’s disease. Technology is showing its presence in the bathrooms also.

There came the modern sitting toilet bowls and you may face many health issues with them. Nowadays, with all the modern and luxurious habits, squatting while emptying your intestines is an old-fashioned and uncomfortable position.

1.Modern toilets bring a line of diseases

Journal of Medical Sciences, an Israeli magazine published an article specifically about the squatting position while defecating is responsible for a high rate of diseases from:

However, when squatting the thighs press the stomach that relieves the emptying and decreases the need for straining.

When you’re in a squatting position, your rectum straightens, which enables a simpler and more profound emptying of your intestines, while when you’re in a sitting position, the contents can’t be completely emptied. The result is an often need to visit the WC.

We can learn many things from children because of their instinct driven actions and natural reaction is good, which is the best human reaction. During defecation, small children will squat instinctively in order to empty their intestinal contents and that natural instinct is unfortunately suppressed as a second plan in adults.

Defection while squatting is healthier and simpler, researchers says. Israeli scientist, Dov Sikirov, published a research about diseases connected to the intestinal tract and the advantages of squatting and he published the results on the pages of the magazine “Digestive Diseases and Sciences”.

He made a study on 28 healthy adult volunteers that are divided in three separate toilets. In the first one, the volunteers used a bowl of a standard height from 41 cm, in the second one, the bowl was lowered to 31 cm and in the third one, the volunteers defecated on a squat toilet.

The time necessary for a total defecation was measured by a digital timer. Dr Sikirov discovered that the volunteers in a squatting position needed 51 seconds, unlike the ones who used the standard bowl and performed their defecation after 130 seconds. According to the information, he concluded that there is a direct connection to the position of the body and the difficulties while defecating.

2. Modern toilets contribute towards the development of hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids appear because of an inflamed vein in the lower part of the colon and the anus and among all. They occur due to straining position that contributes towards a weaker and slower defecation.

That kind of position also demands a greater straining. Unlike the sitting position, emptying the intestines while squatting is much faster and simpler and you almost don’t need any straining.

They worsen the intestinal inflammation

3. The following position while defecating tightens the Puborectalis muscle which prevents a total defecation. Remaining is good for development of infections that results in inflammations.

It can lead to intestinal carcinoma. Crohn’s syndrome is a classical inflammatory autoimmune disease of the intestines, in which the immunological composition of the organism attacks the person’s digestion system. It’s in the group of IBD – inflammatory bowel diseases. An Australian researcher called Wallace Bowles dedicated his researches to confirming the connection between human health and the way we empty our intestines.

He discovered this:

“It was shown that intestinal inflammatory conditions have a positive reaction to emptying the intestines in a squatting position. People with Crohn’s disease have confirmed a significant improvement after only a few weeks and in time, all the symptoms of this disease disappeared.”

  1. They develop urinary infection

Squatting is also the best position for a total emptying of the urinary bladder. The urinal flow is stronger and easier in women when they urinate in a squatting position.

While sitting, the bladder never empties thoroughly and holding urine can lead to development of bacteria e.g. infections of the urinary system.

5. Connection to heart attack

Many people die of heart attacks and deaths in bathrooms. Israeli doctor, Berko Sikirov spent over 20 years studying the consequences of excessive straining during defecation in a sitting position.

He published an article describing that the the tight connection between straining and heart attack. According to him, patients who suffer from acute coronary diseases are especially endangered. In his article, he explains that straining can be avoided during defecating while squatting, because in that case it’s reduced to the minimum.

6. Menstrual problems and toxic shock (TSS)

When women perform their physiological needs in a squatting position, the complete pelvis is pressed. In that way, the urinary bladder empties easily, but also the contents from the uterus during the menstrual cycle. While sitting, because of the lack of natural “pressing”, a part of the menstrual liquid remains inside the uterus, depending on the size and condition of the uterus neck.

Because of a longer retention of blood, the uterus can develop a great amount of bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus, and toxic shock (TSS) can appear as a consequence.

7. Japanese people still “squat”

Squat toilets come from Japan. Japan is a technological giant, but the squat toilet is still an inevitable part of every bathroom, especially in the elder population.

Besides for health and hygienic advantages which the squatting position brings, Japanese people simply love it because it “saves them time”. Their explanation is interesting, but also very wise:

“Thanks to squatting during defecation, the time we spend performing our physiological needs is significantly shortened, which leaves us a lot more time to perform our daily commitments, as well as hanging out with family and friends”.
